Description
This gold pendant is set with an oval cabochon-cut opal in a light translucent white with a subtle play of colors. Opal is known for its unique optical property where the stone exhibits a stunning play of colors when light hits it, also referred to as opalescence. This remarkable effect is caused by the microscopic structure of the stone, which refracts light and reflects all the colors of the spectrum.
Opal was regarded by the Romans as the queen of gemstones, due to the interplay of colors that unites all other gemstones into one stone. Australia is now the primary source of opal, contributing most of the world’s production.
The stone is set in an open four-pronged setting with an elegantly split bail, giving the pendant a light and timeless character. The pendant is made of 14 karat yellow gold (585/1000).
