8, 9 and 10 carat
8, 9, and 10-karat jewelry has a beautiful appearance and has been worn for a long time. They contain real gold, combined with other metals for strength and color. In many countries, such as the United Kingdom, the United States, and Germany, these alloys are simply sold as gold. In the Netherlands, it cannot be called gold. Sometimes it is also abbreviated as BWGG (By Law No Gold).

What about the Netherlands?
In the Netherlands, the legal limit is different. According to the Commodities Act, a piece of jewelry may only be called "gold" here if it is 14 karat or higher. A lower gold content therefore falls under a different designation, even if it does contain gold. It's all about the ratio:
- 8 karat ≈ 33.3% gold
- 9 karat ≈ 37.5% gold
- 10 karat ≈ 41.7% gold
With 14 karat, it's 58.5%. The difference lies in the amount of pure gold. The quality of the jewelry also depends on the craftsmanship, design, and finish.
Why choose 8, 9, or 10 karat jewelry?
These jewelry pieces are sturdy, durable, and often more affordable than 14 or 18 karat. This makes them a popular alternative, especially for everyday use or for those who want a budget-conscious choice without sacrificing style.
