Rose cut diamonds are the oldest cut style of diamonds. Unlike a brilliant cut diamond which has a point at the bottom, a rose cut diamond has a flat bottom. The stone is dome-shaped and facet-cut. The name rose cut diamond comes from its similarity to a flower. Since the 18th century, the popularity of this cut has diminished; currently, brilliant cuts are more favored for their sparkle and visibility. However, the rose cut diamond sees periodic resurgences in popularity.
