Vintage gold brooch made with Zeeland buttons and a filigree technique. Zeeland buttons are an important part of traditional Zeeland costume. Men often wore the buttons as throat studs (on the collar) and women as, for example, a bonnet bell. They were made of bronze, silver, and gold. The larger the button, the wealthier the wearer. Filigree is a highly refined technique in which a thin gold thread is used to create a lace-like pattern. The brooch is made of 14-karat yellow gold (585/1000).
