Description
A gold pendant depicting a Huguenot cross. The pendant is intricately crafted. A beautiful and religious pendant for a necklace. The pendant is made of 14-karat yellow gold (585/1000). The Huguenot cross dates back to the seventeenth century, but its exact origin remains a mystery. It is believed that goldsmith Maystre from Nîmes designed the cross in 1688. Protestant believers now had an opportunity to abandon the hated Catholic symbol. The Huguenot cross was a great success. Since the nineteenth century, it has been considered a common Calvinist symbol. The upper part consists of a Maltese cross, with its arms connected. It is meant to represent Jesus's crown of thorns. Between the four arms are four hearts, which symbolize love—the love that reminds believers of the commandment "love one another" (John 13:34). At the bottom hangs a dove, which symbolizes the Holy Spirit descending from heaven to earth.
