Description
Silver matchbox with a striped pattern. The front of the box has a blank round area, which would be a lovely place for initials. The box is made in England from 925/1000 sterling silver. It was made in Birmingham in 1912. The matchbox shows some signs of wear but is still very beautiful. This box was once used to store small matches; the bottom has ridges for striking. This object was popular in the 20th century. (The predecessor to the matchbox was the tinderbox; before matches existed, a highly flammable material was stored in a similar box.)
