Silver ring with a beautiful Zeeland button. The ring is made of second-grade silver (835/1000). Zeeland buttons are an important part of Zeeland traditional costume. Men often wore the buttons as throat studs (on the collar), and women used them as a bonnet bell, for example. They were made of bronze, silver, and gold. The larger the button, the wealthier the wearer. Buttons were worn before they became a formal part of traditional costume. Their use even dates back to the time of Michiel de Ruyter (late 17th century)!
