Vintage gold brooch made with Zeeland buttons and a filigree technique. Filigree is a highly refined technique in which thin gold wire is used to create a lace-like pattern. The brooch is shaped like a crescent moon and a star and is made of 14-karat yellow gold (585/1000). It can be fastened with a pin. Zeeland buttons are an important part of traditional Zeeland costume. Men often wore the buttons as throat studs (on the collar), and women wore them as a bonnet bell, for example. They were made of bronze, silver, and gold. The larger the button, the wealthier the wearer.
